Audi vehicles come with factory lighting galore, but headlights are the most common type. A headlight can be of two kinds: low-beam and high-beam. The former light the way adequately for everyday driving in average weather. The latter shine wider to help you see what's around you better in the dark.

A headlamp can double as a hazard light, too. Put two together, and you've got flashers. They tell drivers nearby that you're in distress or that there are problems or a dangerous situation on the road. Some Audi models also have fog lights built into their headlighting. These shine low with minimal glare in bad weather, and they brighten your driving environment a lot better.

Types of Headlights

OEM Audi headlights can have one of three types of lamps. Halogen lamps are the most common. Xenon lamps, also known as high-intensity discharge or HID lamps, fit in narrower housings, so you can find them in most sports cars. LED lamps, you can find in many newer vehicles. They're the most energy-efficient, and they create very little heat. What headlights your Audi needs is body style-dependent, but when to change a car light bulb isn't. Replace Xenon headlights when they weaken. That's every three years or so. Change LED headlights if they go out or their electronics fail. Change halogen headlights every two years at least.
