OEM Audi Weather Stripping
You've probably noticed the system of rubber and soft-plastic slats lining the edges of your Audi vehicle's windows and doors, held in place by screws and adhesive. It's what's called weather stripping. Its job is twofold: to keep the elements out of your cabin, and to help your doors close more quietly.
Unfortunately, weather strips can and often do wear out over time. At that point, they'll need to be replaced. Luckily, there are a few signs that'll tell you when it's time for a change. They include:
- Airflow through the doors or windows when they're otherwise closed
- Seepage, if not water stains near leak sites
- Moist strip channels
- Worn, brittle, or cracked spots on the strip
When it's time to install new weather stripping, you'll find that it's easy. Most of the time, you can simply remove the screws on the old strips, pull them away, remove the adhesive in the channels, dry the areas, reapply new adhesive, and then press the fresh strips gently into the channels. Align them correctly, then hold them on for a bit. Lastly, replace any screws with issues, and the job is done. Just be sure that you use stripping that's the same type and length as before.
