What an Audi AC system does is straightforward: it keeps the cabin cool during a drive. It does so in four steps, equivalent to the four parts that make up the system.

First, a compressor pressurizes the refrigerant, transforming it into a hot gas. Second, a condenser cools the gas, converting it back into a liquid. Third, an expansion valve draws the fluid in, and it becomes a gas once more as it goes, though, this time, at a lower pressure. Fourth, and lastly, an evaporator cools the gas down rapidly, with assistance from a fan. The result: chilled air, which travels through your vehicle's ducts, out its vents, and into its cabin, keeping you and your riders comfortable when the weather's warm.

How to Spot Faulty AC System Parts

Unfortunately, car air conditioning seals can weaken sometimes, often just from use and age. For another example, if you're seeing higher-than-normal cabin temperatures, hearing strange noises during operation, or your compressor clutch is stuck, you've probably got compressor problems. Of course, if you've got frost buildup, your AC button is flashing, the HVAC warning light's lit, or you've got issues with discharge pressure, it means you've likely got AC condenser problems.
